What is apps-notification[.]com?

Apps-notification[.]com targets mostly iOS and macOS users, although, Android and Windows users are targeted as well. This website is designed to promote various questionable (or legitimate) software in deceptive ways, it claims that visitor's device is or may be infected with viruses and offers to download and install one or another application. It is strongly recommended not to trust any notifications that apps-notification[.]com is designed to display. As a rule, users do not visit such pages intentionally, in most cases they get opened through deceptive advertisements, other shady pages or by installed potentially unwanted applications (PUAs).

Apps-notification[.]com claims that visitor's iPad may be hacked or Apple device (e.g., iPhone) is infected with viruses, and offers to remove those viruses or protect a device from being infected with one or another questionable application. At the time of the research apps-notification[.]com lead to a download page for AdsBlock for Safari. Android users are offered to install the app called Android Cleaner, Windows users are offered to install PC Cleaner, Norton AntiVirus and/or McAfee. Apps-notification[.]com is designed to advertise both legitimate and questionable software - in one way or another, all software should be downloaded only from official websites and not through/from deceptive sites like apps-notification[.]com. If this or any other similar site is being opened by a browser often, then it is very likely that it happens because of some installed PUA.

It is common that PUAs are designed not only to force browsers to open unreliable websites like apps-notification[.]com but also to display ads and/or gather various data. They can be designed to feed users with various intrusive advertisements. They serve coupons, banners, surveys, pop-ups, and other types of advertisements that, when clicked, could open unreliable websites or download and/or install various unwanted applications by executing certain scripts. Also, PUAs can be designed to collect IP addresses, entered search queries, addresses of visited websites, geolocation, and/or other browsing data. As mentioned in the introduction, users often end up on such pages unintentionally - those websites often get opened by some installed unwanted applications.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

It is common that users download and/or install potentially unwanted apps alongside with wanted ones. To be more precise, when PUAs are included in setups other programs as additional offers and users finish downloads and/or installations without declining them. In other words, when they download and/or install programs without checking and changing 'Advanced', 'Custom' or other settings of setups. This distribution method of unwanted apps is known as 'bundling'. Sometimes unwanted downloads and/or installations happen when users click deceptive advertisements that are designed to execute certain scripts.

How to avoid installation of potentially unwanted applications?

It is important to download files and programs only from trustworthy, official websites and via direct links. Other channels, sources like third party downloaders, Peer-to-Peer networks (e.g., torrent clients, eMule), unofficial websites, etc., often are monetized by using them as tools to distribute unwanted, sometimes even malicious apps. The same applies to third party installers. If a download or installation setup has settings like 'Custom', 'Advanced', then they should be checked for offers to download and/or install additionally included, unwanted software. Furthermore, ads that appear on pages related to gambling, pornography, adult dating, etc., should not be trusted/clicked. It is common that such apps are designed to open other untrustworthy pages or even cause downloads, installations of unwanted apps. If some unwanted, suspicious add-on, plug-in or extension is already installed on a browser, and/or program of this kind installed on the operating system, then it should be uninstalled/removed right away. iMessages are Addressed to either the iPhone Number or the Apple ID.

This can mean that ones sent to the iPhone Number are only 'answered' in the form of the 'Delivered' and 'Read' back to the sender.

The iPhone will display the Apple ID iMessages but not give those 'replies' out if the Mac is asleep.

It can be helped though if both devices are set to the same Send From ID as this, over time, means all your contacts reply to the same ID (or Number).

Both Devices can be set to show Notifications.
